The 75th Anniversary of Reverso Watches
Jaeger-leCoultre’s rich past associated with the sport of polo
Jaeger-leCoultre’s entrance into polo was quite by accident. In fact, an accident is what made César de Trey, who broke his watch while playing polo, as his friend Jacques-David LeCoultre to create a watch that was rugged enough for polo, yet still stylish and iconic.

The idea was to create a swivel case that allows only the back of the timepiece to get exposed to jolts. This innovative design became synonymous to the sport of polo and the Reverso watch becames the de-facto watch for any serious polo enthusiast.
The website, LivingPolo spoke with Jaeger-leCoultre’s International PR Director, Isabelle Gervais, to get the luxury watch company’s passion for polo:
“The association of Jaeger-leCoultre with polo is almost like a long love affair. The functionality and elegance of the Reverso perfectly mirrors the core attributes of the game and as a company we feel that our long history with polo is part of our brand identity. Over the decades as tastes became more urban and refined, so too did our watches, we introduced smaller models, jewelled cases and more ornate lines. However with the Reverso Squadra, launched to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the original Reverso, we returned to our more sporty roots and the Squadra has a more robust feel.
In 2012 we are continuing our association with the La Aguada team for the Argentine Open and we remain the official timekeepers of Cowdray Park, home of the British Open, the Gold Cup. Being a Swiss brand, we are also involved in various events at home, including the Polo Masters in Geneva. We also support smaller polo events, notably charity tournaments.”
Obviously, Jaeger-leCoultre Watches have been part of this regal sport since the 1930’s. Their presence in polo, namely with the Reverso watch, has been a beloved sponsor and passionate promoter of polo for over 75 years.
